The museum's collections might appear rather disparate. Fossils and minerals are alongside birds, mammals and shells, as well as elephants' tusks and bags from reptile skins One of the place's main functions, like the museum, is the preservation of the natural heritage. Interest in the collections is all the greater on account of the developments and changes occurring to our planet. These collections are the earth's archives, just like documentary archives, which is why the museum works in tandem with many institutions, such as the National Museum of Natural History.
